Saturday 4/30/11 Coupons and Deals

As I said before, I won't be around much this weekend so here is what I have gathered this morning. If any of my couponing ladies see something come out while I am away, email me :)

Head on over to Coupons.com and search zip code 77477 to print $1.00 off 4 Libby's Vegetables and $1.00 off 2 Libby's fruit. It includes canned fruit which = 2 free cans if used a HT before Tuesday. **The coupon sites are all buzzing that these will go very fast so I would print them now**

Visit Purina on FB here to get a coupon for a FREE bag of Pro Plan Roasted dog treats.

I do not have time this weekend to do anymore sales and match-ups so I'm going to link to people who already have :) Go to Melissa's Bargains for the full list of CVS match-ups and Happy Money Saver for the Rite Aid ones. Also some great CVS scenarios that tell you exactly what to do by transaction to maximize your coupons and ECB's at Addicted To Savings

Visit Cottonelle here to get a free tub of fresh wipes. You can also send one to a friend :)

Making Walgreens Rewards Work For You

FYI the Walgreens post I told you to bookmark has now been updated! I knew it was going to be a great shopping week but even I was not expecting all this! **Make sure you read that post first or this one won't make a whole lot of sense to you**

If you have been reading my blog for any length of time, you have seen me talk about rolling your rewards. For those who are new to couponing, you may have no idea what I'm talking about so I'm going to start at the beginning. I'm using Walgreens as an example because that is my prefered store of choice but the exact same thing can be done at CVS with their ECB and Rite Aid with their +Up rewards.

Walgreens offers what they call register rewards. RR are a coupon that will print at the register (like at the grocery stores) for a certain amount off your next purchase. To earn these you just have to buy a qualifing item and these are always listed in their sales ad. In most cases the initial purchase to get the reward requires some amount of money out of your pocket. I got SUPER lucky and earned my first $4 RR with no $ oop but this is rare. So purchase what you need to purchase to get your first one and from that point on...ROLL IT.

What do I mean by roll it? Rolling your rewards is simply using your reward to pay little/zero oop and earn another reward in the process. There are lots of ways to do this if you do your homework and be smart about it. There is one catch however, you can NOT use a RR to buy an identical item and get another RR. Let's use contonelle for example. I get a $3 RR for buying 2 packs. If in my next transaction, I buy 2 more packs of cottonelle, I can still use my RR to reduce the price BUT I won't get another RR because there is a limit and it is tracked through the barcode. You never want to do this!

Here is a scenerio to do instead, use your contonelle RR to buy a pack of Bic Soleil razors. After sale and coupon they are only $2.99 so with my contonelle RR they cost me zero oop and I earn a $2 RR. Next I will buy a pack of Noxzema razors, which are $1.99 after sale and coupon. Use the $2 RR you got from BIC to pay zero oop and get another $3.00 RR. So now you have 2 packs of free razors and you still have your reward. Let's go through a few more scenerios....So now I have my free toilet paper (remember I started with a $4 RR) and I have my free razors. Next I will buy some Right Guard deodorant. After sales and coupons my total due is $2.99 for 2 sticks. I use my $3 RR to pay zero and earn another $2 RR. Now I need some shampoo. After sales and coupons I can get 2 bottles of Head and Shoulders for $4.00. I will use my $2 RR + $2 oop and still earn another $2. Now with this $2 reward I can start all over again with the contonelle. This time I will pay $5 oop for the toilet paper and just go down the list getting everything for free.

So now in just ONE week of sales I have gotten 48 rolls of toilet paper, 4 packs of razors, 4 sticks of deodorant, and 4 bottles of shampoo and conditioner and the total cost out of pocket...a whopping $7. It does of course require a little effort on your part. You must either make multiple trips to the store or do more than one transaction per visit (or both!). I am very fortunate in that I pass right by 2 Walgreens each day and a 3rd is only 2 blocks out of my way from my office. So theoretically I could stop at each one, each day next week and by repeating the above process get everything for near free until I just run out of time and can't do it anymore. Now I realize some people may think there is way too much work involved and that's ok too :) I can only pass along what I think are great deals and what you do with them is entirely up to you. Do I particularly want to stop by a store 3 times a day every day next week? No but will I do it...more than likely :) A: I LOVE to shop. I mean really love it and B) At the end of the week when I look at the piles of items I paid next to nothing for, it will allllll be worth it!

After that, I won't be around much the rest of the weekend. We are having a birthday party for my twins Jacob and Caleb who are turning 6 :)))

A Few Tidbits of Advice

Before I get to the daily list, I wanted to pass along a few tidbits of wisdom I have picked up along the couponing way.... If you have a printer that isn't horribly expensive on ink, I can't stress enough to PRINT as many coupons as you can, as often as you can. Even for products you don't think you will use. You will be amazed how quickly your mindset can change once you hear "free". In most cases, by the time the right sale comes along, it's too late and the coupons are gone (remember they are taken down once the print limit is reached).

For example, I didn't print the Seventh Generation coupons for baby wipes, laundry detergent or dish detergent because the brand is usually expensive and I rarely see a great sale on it. Well little did I know at HT this week you can get the dish detergent totally free and the baby wipes for just $0.99. Luckily they are still available and I have printed them from every computer I can get my hands on. Ask good friends and family if they would print a coupon or two for you if it's one you know will equal free. I should have a good 6 month supply of dish detergent by Tuesday when super doubles is over and I didn't pay a penny for it :) **Stock pile what you can, when you can. Invest in some of those cheap stackable shelves and put them up in an extra closet, garage or even your laundry room to store your extras. The more you get now for free or cheap is the less you have to buy later at full retail price when you run out.

Also learn how to not be brand specific as much as possible. Everyone has their favorite brands but don't be afraid to try new things. Another example...I have been a Gain detergent user for at least the last 10 years, wouldn't buy or use anything else on our laundry. It's about $11.00 a bottle and I always bought it at full price. One of my first purchases with coupons was on ALL Oxi detergent because I realized I could get it for just $1.99 with the store sale and coupons I had. So I got 3 bottles and paid half of what I would have paid for one bottle of Gain. I tried it out and guess what...it works great, smells great and we all have clean clothes so it serves it's purpose. As long as a product works the way it's intended and no one has any allergies or anything, I'm all about trying something different.

You wouldn't be on my page if saving money didn't interest you so look for every way you can to stretch your dollar. Couponing is hard and overwhelming in the beginning but really give it your all for one month. A good way to think of it is like taking on a part time job. Coupons = cash in your pocket. Keep your receipts or a log of how much you have saved and add it up at the end of the month. You will be amazed and it will only get better with time once you get the hang of it and build up your stock pile. After a few weeks/months you will notice your savings getting higher and higher and the amount of time you have to dedicate to couponing getting lower and lower. People buy new cars with the money they save using coupons. Once you get the hang of it and get things rolling, you should be able to spend less than 2 hours a week on couponing. Could you find 2 hours a week to spare if it meant saving your family thousands of dollars??

$1.65 Feeds A Family of 6 :)

I am so excited about the dinner I made tonight that I just had to share! We had BBQ Ribs cooked on the grill, mashed potatos, mac & cheese and pinto beans, enough for 6 people, and for a total cost of $1.65. Whoohoo!!

THAT is what coupons can do for you. Here is how I did it...

I had a coupon for $2.00 off a pack of ribs when you buy a bottle of BBQ Sauce. I used a coupon I had for BBQ sauce to get it for just $0.95 and then still got $2.00 off the ribs. I found a pack of ribs that had been reduced for quick sale (no big deal since we made them today and I bought them today) so the ribs were free. I used some mac & chesse that I got for $0.25 per box, the mashed potatos were free with a coupon and the pintos were on sale BOGO free so I got them for $0.45. I don't think a meal has ever tasted so good!

AND the tale of a couponer's daughter...

My 3 year old asked me if she can have a quarter. I assumed she wanted it for her piggy bank because when she is good, she gets to put coins in there. She had been very good today so I gave it to her, then I see her go over to my binder and pull out a coupon. She brings the coupon and the quarter to me and says "Mommy can we go to the store and buy something now." I told her yes but only if she would pose for a picture. LOLOLOLOL she's truly a girl after my own heart.

Slow Day

Well it's been a slow day in the coupon world. Not much to post about today.

If you are new to couponing and have a little time to spare, I found a great article Coupons 101 which will tell you everything you need to know about coupons, how to use them, how not to use them ect. It's really very interesting and useful.

Find out how to get free Tidy Cat litter here OR if you don't want to call just print a $1.10 coupon here which makes it about $0.67 at Walmart.

If you printed the Bic Soleli Razor coupon I posted about yesterday, I heard they are on sale at Target for  $3.99 (4 pack) + $3.00 off coupon = $0.99 each. I hope to make it to Target today so I will try to confirm.

While I'm waiting for things to pick back up, I did a few Food Lion Match-Ups. Prices may vary by region and store.

Food Lion:
*Remember, any BOGO free item rings up half price so you don't have to buy two!

A1 Steak Sauce on sale for $2.50 and there was a coupon in last weeks paper for $1.00 off so you pay $1.50 per bottle (I'm use to paying near $4.00 a bottle for this so $1.50 is great!)

Kraft 16 oz Salad dressing 3/$5. Only buy 2 and use a $1.00 off 2 coupon from the paper making them $1.34 each wyb 2 (regularly priced $2.79 each)

Country Crock Spreadable Sticks for just $0.49 pack when you combine their BOGO free sale and $0.40 off coupon from the paper or printable from Country Crock on FB. Not sure if the printable is still available or not.

Coke 2 liters are BOGO free or about $0.90 each

Birds Eye Viola entrees are BOGO free and there was a printable coupon last week that if you bought any entree, you got a free steamfresh vegetable. The veg. are also BOGO free so you should end up paying about $2.50 (half the price of one entree) for the entree and 2 vegetables (which should both be free). ***Correction! I was going through my coupons today and the ones I have for the entrees are $3.00 off one which would make them FREE + a $0.50 cent overage BUT make sure you give them your coupons before you let them scan your MVP card or the coupon will beep because the value exceeds the price. The veggies are still BOGO free so you could do that or just get them at HT where they are $0.50 cent each after $0.75/3 coupon doubled***

Palermo's Pizza BOGO free plus coupon for BOGO free = 2 free pizzas! **This was not in their ad but I heard it was an extend from last week's sale. I will try to confirm asap.

Request

Ok I have a small request :)))

I spend a lot of time researching the deals I post and even more time typing them all out and providing the links. However I wouldn't get the deals I get if other people didn't take the time to post them on FB, blogs, websites ect. so I have no problem spending a few minutes passing the savings on as well. If we all work together and help each other, we all win in the end.

You will notice an ad under each of my posts. If you have a second to spare and wouldn't mind helping me in return, please click on the ad each time you visit my page. All you have to do is click it, you don't have to sign up for anything, read anything or do anything except click the ad and close the window. I will earn a small (like pennies) percentage of money based on the number of clicks but over time it will add up. Just in the last 3 days I have gotten nearly 150 page views. If everyone will click the ad each time they visit, I would have like 50 cents already and after weeks/months maybe just maybe it will build up to a decent amount.

Thanks bunches, your help is MUCH appreciated :)

I heard Walmart and Target carry the Extreme Clean in trial size so it will be free with coupon. I hope to make it by one of those places this afternoon to get some of my other freebies so I'll update if I find it :) **Also there is a Walgreens store coupon for $1.00 off the kids training toothpaste. If you print the aquafresh coupon too you can combine them and get $1.75 off. I believe I saw it on sale this week at Walgreens but I will price check it this afternoon :) **Update- The training toothpaste is not on sale, it's the regular aquafresh kids that's on sale. You can still get the training toothpaste for around $1.00 though with the 2 coupons but I'm all stocked up from the CVS freebie last week so I passed on this one :)

**Update on Dove and Clorox Deal**

The Dove coupon link I posted earlier DOES work at CVS, the Clorox deal is also valid. I stopped by 2 CVS stores and one Walgreens on the way home, bought 7 Dove deodorants, 2 bottles of Clorox clean up and 4 packs of Butterfinger Snackers and paid $1.29 total!

FYI with the Dove...I stopped at one store and bought 4 deodorants. I used 1 $3/2 and one $1/1 coupon and paid $0.29 in tax. BUT I stopped at a second CVS and only bought 3. The total came to $2.97 and I had one $3/2 coupon. The cashier adjusted the coupon to $2.97 and my total owed was zero! This was the first time I have ever not had to pay tax on a free item but I didn't argue :)

Walgreens: Clorox Clean Up for $0.50

Did you vote on Clorox's FB page and print out the coupon I posted earlier? If so you can use this at Walgreens this week to get the Clorox Clean-Up Spray for $0.50 each:
Buy 2 Clorox Clean-Up Sprays at $2.50 each
Use $2/2 Walgreens coupon from the Walgreens coupon booklet
Stack with 2 $1/1 facebook coupons
$0.50 per bottle after coupons

$1.99 for Wisk Laundry Detergent

Coupons.com just released their coupon of the week....$2.00 off one bottle of Wisk detergent. It's on sale at BiLo through tomorrow evening for $3.99 which means you will pay just $1.99 per bottle. That is a GREAT price on laundry detergent. Act fast before this one is taken down :)

Free Razor from Gillette

The razor deal I talked about is going on right NOW. Better hurry!!!

Go to their FB page here

***Just saw they are out for today*** Another giveaway will be held tomorrow.

**Free Men's Deodorant at CVS**

Just in case you missed the Dove coupon I emailed out last week, here is your chance to still cash in on some free deodorant. Go to coupons.com and click on "personal care" on the left side. Then print a $3/2 dove coupon. If you don't see it under your zip code, try using zip code 90210. The coupon says redeem only at Walgreens but it is a manufacturer coupon so it should scan with no problem.

Buy 3 Dove men+care deodorant at $0.99 each (regularly $4.99) and use the $3/2 coupon for 3 free!!

**This is considered one of those hot sales I talked about in an earlier post. If your store is sold out, remember you can ask for a rain check and request up to 5 which is the limit on this sale**

This is a great way to save!! I got 2 coupons for $1.00 off any store purchase.

A Few *Hot* Coupons

You will often see me post often about *hot* coupons. These are coupons that will go fast and most likely equal free or super cheap products in the near future. Be sure to act fast and print yours before they run out and are taken down. Remember you can print each coupon up to two times! If there is a coupon you are really interested in, try printing it from other computers. I have 2 computers at work, one at home and one at my husband's work that we can print from so if it's a really good coupon, I will print it up to 8 times!

I have a few hot ones for you now...
  •  Get your $1.00 off Caress body wash by clicking the link.  $1.00 off Caress Will go on sale soon!
  • Print $1 off coupon for Rayovac batteries here These equal free batteries at Walmart! They have a 4 pack for 98 cent. I have already bought 2 packs :)
  • "Like" Wisk on facebook to print $1 off coupon. This goes on sale often and will equal some cheap laundry detergent!
  • Go here to play a matching game on Viva paper towels. Clear all 3 levels and print a $2.00 off coupon. You can play twice and print 2 coupons. *Hint, you don't need to clear the board to advance, you just have to find and match the 2 coupon cards. Play as many times as you need to play each round to clear it without having to start over!
  • Hop on over to Coupons.com to print many great coupons. *Hint you can use different zip codes to print coupons that may not be offered in your zip code. Save $2 off 2 Reach toothbrushes (I guarantee this will go on sale soon!) $1 off listerine, $2 off 2 Nivea lip care (have seen this on sale for 99 cent at CVS recently) $1 off 2 butterfinger snackers (will equal 2 free starting on Sunday at Rite Aid!) $1.00 off Reach floss (it's only 88 cent at Walmart!) $1.00 off comet bathroom cleaner (going on sale 5/1) 55 cent off Ballpark hotdogs (doubles to $1.05 at BiLo) and many other great coupons!
  • Be sure to "like" Gillette on facebook. They are doing a giveaway each weekday through May 4th for free razors. Check often because they will go fast. I missed it yesterday but was able to grab one today :)
I'm calling it a night. More deals will come as I find them!

Maximize Your Savings

Learn how to use coupons effectively to get the most for your money. If you have a coupon for 50 cents off cereal and you don't need cereal this week, hold on to your coupon and see if it goes on sale. If your cereal is normally $2.50 and you use your coupon, you only saved 50 cents but if the cereal goes on sale for $1.50 and you use your coupon, you just saved $1.50 (or $2.00 if your store doubles!).

I'm going to list a few examples of how I maximized my savings recently.
  • CVS has aquafresh toothpaste and toothbrushes for $2.89 each. I had 10 coupons for these items (5 for toothpaste and 5 for toothbrushes). I waited until they went on sale for 5/$5 and used all 10 of my coupons to get 5 of each item free.
  • Walgreens had Splenda on sale for $2.99. I had 5 coupons for $3 off any Spenda product. If you bought 4 or more of any Spenda product you got a $4 register reward good on your next purchase of anything in the store. I bought 5 boxes of Splenda, used my 5 coupons to make them free AND earned a $4 reward. We don't use Splenda so I donated the boxes to my church which provides breakfast quite often and I can write off the full price of the Splenda (3.99 x 5 = $19.95) on my taxes as a charitable contribution. I also earned my $4 register reward just for buying it!
  • Colgate toothpaste was on sale 2/$6 and I had 2 coupons for $1.00 off Colgate. If you bought 2 or more you got a $4 reward. I bought it at 2/$6 and used my 2 coupons of $1 off which brought my total down to $4. I then used the $4 reward I had earned from the Splenda to make my total zero and earned another $4 reward! It is valid for a few weeks so I'm holding onto it to see what other items I can buy next week to earn even more rewards. This process can go on indefinitely!
  • Rite Aid had a BOGO free sale on Air Wick air freshener and I had 7 coupons for BOGO free. I got 14 cans of air freshener and used my 7 coupons and combined with the store sale I just paid .98 cent in tax.

Shop smart!! I will update my blog often to alert you of these sales so you too can save money and earn free products!

Did You Know?

Did you know that most stores are actually very coupon friendly?

Walmart recently updated their coupon policy and is the only store that will pay you in cash if your coupon value exceeds the price of an item. They will also price match other store sales AND accept other store coupons. I had a catalina (a coupon that prints from the cash register at check out) from Food Lion and used it at Walmart with no problem.

BiLo doubles coupons up to 99 cent everyday.

Bloom and Harris Teeter run "Super Double" specials where they will double your coupon up to $1.98 That means if you have a coupon for $1.50 off, it will double to $3.00 so keep a watch out and take full advantage of those sales!

Rite Aid allows you to combine BOGO free store sales with BOGO free coupons to get both items free!

Walgreens allows you to combine a store coupon with a manufacturer coupon to get both discounts.

Almost every store allows you to use two coupons on a BOGO free item even though you are already getting one for free. The second coupon just deducts the price you pay for the 1st! This is why reading and know the coupon policy of each store is so helpful.

Getting Started

The question I get asked the most is "How do I get started?" The very first thing you need to do is get your coupons. An insert should come to your house every week. There are also inserts in the newspaper each Sunday so make sure you buy one (or several). Some of the most valuable coupons come from the internet. I will alert you to those as much as possible through my blog so check it often and print them as soon as possible. A lot of the really good ones go fast and will be taken down once the maximum amount of prints has been reached. I saw one that had just been posted about 1pm. I printed two (max allowed) and when I got home at 5pm I tried to print two more and they were gone so ACT FAST!

Ask your family, friends and neighbors if they use coupons and if not, ask them to save their inserts for you. If you have a good relationship with your mail carrier or newspaper delivery person, ask them to give you any extras they have. They usually throw away tons of inserts each week so it never hurts to ask! One lady told me she left a note in her mailbox asking for extra coupons and now she gets five each week, just for asking. You can also use coupon clipping websites to order single coupons or whole inserts. Prices vary but most are very reasonable so shop around.

Get organized! You will need to find a system that works for you to keep your coupons organized or you will get overwhelmed in just a few short weeks. Here is what I did but feel free to experiment and find a system that works for you. I have a 3-ring binder that I picked up from Walmart. Mine has a large velcro pocket on the front cover that I use to keep my weekly sales ads in.

Inside the binder, I have about 10 clear page protectors (one for each store I frequent). I keep a copy of each store's coupon policy in a page protector. If you ever get an inexperienced cashier that tries to tell you that you can't do something that you know is allowed, you can pull out the policy and show them. I have never had to do this but have talked to others who have, it never hurts to be prepared. I also use them to keep my store cards, my shopping list for that store and my coupons that I will use on my next visit all in the page protector. That way when I get to the store, I can just open the binder, pull out the page protector and go inside and I have my coupons, shopping list and store reward card all in one place.
Next I have page dividers labeled: health & beauty, cleaning products, meat and dairy, frozen foods ect. In each section I have 5-10 (depending on how many you need) baseball card protector sheets, like you would put baseball cards in. These can be found at Target or any sports collector shop. You can put a coupon in each slot for easy finding later. This system is also very helpful when doing the grocery store match ups!
You now have all the tools you need to become a successful couponer. Happy Shopping!
